The Toronto Raptors' Good Start to the Season
It is a very small sample size, just two games into the season, but the first two games look good. They have not played the best teams in the league — those teams were the Chicago Bulls and Washington — but you expect a team to beat those teams, and they did.
The team has looked good because everybody is doing their part to combine towards the winning effort. But you need top players to be the best players on the court, and I think the top 3 players for the Raptors do that.
Yes, Kawhi has not had the offensive start that you want, but he has definitely made the team defence much better than last year. I also wouldn't panic about Kawhi's slow offensive start, because he will start getting points. He doesn't play many minutes per season, so it will just take time.
Then there is RJ Barrett, who has started the season really well offensively. On Friday he almost got a double-double but came one rebound short.
Now, I think the most impressive start of the season is Scottie Barnes playing like the team's best player should. He has always been a very good player, but I think this year we're going to see a big improvement from Scottie.
The Raptors get a hard, tough stretch after the first two games of the season, and the Eastern Conference is a really strong conference. But coming in, the Raptors were considered a favourite to make the finals, and the first two games have done nothing to change that. They have not been behind yet this season.
Next game for them is Minnesota, who are 2-0, tonight.
